Many sticks in Seán’s range come with alternative centres – wood or cork. Wood centres are heavier, and work well on timpani with plastic heads, pedal timpani and metal shelled timpani. Cork centres work best for hand-tuned instruments, calfskin timpani and fibreglass timpani.

Some considerations when placing a bespoke order.
All sticks are made from scratch rather than using commercially produced handles. This makes it possible to offer a choice of handle dimensions. As standard the sticks are in the region of 8 - 11mm diameter, with diameter going up according to increased head size and weight. Overall length is 37.5 cm as standard.
Some players prefer thick handles on all their sticks, especially if they frequently play very loudly; Brass Bands are a good example. Other players frequently specify a handle of no more than 9mm diameter. They prefer the lighter “feel” of these sticks, which is especially appreciated when playing with a chamber orchestra and when playing Baroque and early classical music, e.g. Bach and Handel. It is worth noting that very thick (11 – 12mm) handles give a “darker” sound which may take away the special quality of sound you will get from small light sticks such as B1,B2, B3 and B9, B10, B11.
And very thin (9mm or thinner) handles can be at risk when playing loudly with a large, heavy stick such as BP7 or P14.
As identifying a matched pair of canes of a specific diameter can take time you may have to wait a little longer for your order if you specify a thickness.

Testimonials
“You couldn’t provide a more comprehensive service Sean! And much more generous and caring towards the customer than any other stick maker I’ve ever come across too!!!!”
“Thanks again for your generosity over my order. This contrasts strongly with the rather money- grabbing approach I have encountered over the years from other stick makers!
It’s much appreciated and makes the whole process so much more bespoke.
Thanks Sean.”
